Oh, I'm guilty of that, m'lud. I usually - in my haste to get bidding - stupidly put my first bid in with a few days to spare - and of course you know what happens next don't you, others come along and up the price with their bids......and so it goes on..... so of course the item ends up going invariably for a hell of a lot more than I originally wished for it to go.....
More recently I have learnt to be more restrained, and only bid at the last few minutes, but it's undeniable that your heart starts to pound when you're counting down those last minutes hoping that no one will nick in and beat you to it. (This will always happen to me cos my connection - from a Macintosh computer remember - the worst thing to have on the internet - is always slow and some fucker will always delay the countdown to register their winning bid).
I've lost count of the number of times I have misjudged the last minute or dying few seconds and placed a final desperate bid in a scramble to remain the winning bidder only for some smart twat to pre-empt my bid and beat me to the hammer. That fucking annoys me...and as you can see, this is why I believe that bidding on e-Bay - especially when you're locked in a race at the dying seconds - should carry with it a government health warning, cos it's not good for your heart!
